Well, it got steam front page, and a fair amount of people remember previous video game iterations instead of the TTRPG, and it released for $19.99 new, and 'indie' is the in thing right now. It really was the perfect time for this game to come out.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

I died once after bumrushing a couple of dudes like an idiot. Game promptly bugged out and didn't give me the "game over, load?" screen. Now that is permadeath. Other than that running as a bear shaman equiped with heal makes it pretty darn impossible for anyone to die.

I just started hating on the game after I punched my way toward the BBEG and he... just wasn't there. Broken trigger was broken. Didn't feel like replaying to test my luck yet...

Also on Steam like 15k poeple are playing that game. Not sure if the version Backers got is tied to Steam, but if not a shitload of people are playing it not associated to any SR boards. Good, I think SR is not dead, just the TTRPG is a decomposing carcass.

If you want to get rid of one of them... ;)

Yeah, I'm not playing a legit copy. Who knew a drm free release would be available instantly on the torrentz? Will buy it anyway, but I'm kinda bummed at the moment at how unfinished the game is considering the amount of cash they had shoved up their ass.

and apparently no map/mission creator like Heroes 2 had.
Map editor was added in one of the patches - you should have it.
Too late, I've already done the most fun thing the game can offer: uninstalling it.

unity engine!
it's meant for portable devices after all.
the only reason we are getting these games at all is that it's meant for portable devices AND cross plattform compatible. it's a bit of a better flash in my eyes

Nah, it's entirely appropriate to complain about their bullshit save system. It's not about weakness, either--the game is piss easy, so it's not like you ever actually need to reload for gameplay purposes. It's just that sometimes people have better shit to be doing. FFS, the game's biggest hope for the future right now is that it seems low-end enough to make a very solid tablet game if the modding community pulls through. When I play tablet games, it's because I'm fucking around while waiting for my friends to show up or otherwise don't have many shits to give, so anything that is multi-task unfriendly thus comes across as pants-on-head retarded.

XCOM's save system (saves automatically and whenever it would matter, load only the latest save and only if you haven't lost yet) is both more hardcore and less annoying.

Beyond the fact that that's not an actual response ("you died in a videogame? Here's your fun-tax, go sit in the corner for 10-15 minutes"), you also save the game when you close it, which is something everyone does. But also, having a real save system adds value to the game (or at the very least, a checkpoint system with checkpoints that are actually useful and map to the start of challenges). I am not the only person in the world who loaded Deus Ex from the same quicksave over and over and over to find all the different ways I could clear a particular section because I thought that section was fun. And because the game let you save whenever and however, that was really easy and involved no wasted time.
Stahlseele wrote:i am complaining about people saying that a game ain't worth replaying a bit as long as 30 minutes!
Considering that the game is almost 100% linear and any progress you lose (whether through death or simply closing the application) isn't actually new content or particularly interesting gameplay (it will probably play out nearly exactly the same), that's just time pissed down the drain that would not be otherwise pissed down the drain. When a design decision is worse than its alternatives, people's complaints about that decision are justified. When you bitch about people with justified complaints because "well, I like the game as a whole," all you're doing is indulging in mindless fanboyism.

Here, let me show you how it's done: I like Dark Souls. I think it's a pretty damn good game. It has a bad save system. It is fun for awhile, because the enemies are initially somewhat challenging, but you eventually learn the patterns and learn the levels and when you die in a tough/new area all its save system does is force you to run by/speedmurder a lot of things you don't care about. It does not enhance the gameplay, enhance the difficulty, enhance the atmosphere, or any bullshit like that - it's just a tax you have to pay in time for every death, and that is time that could be spent playing content you haven't seen yet and still care about.

Yeah, the "it's turn based, just leave your PC on" excuse does not work with mobile devices. Like at all. Ever.

Oh well, just finished it. Don't have high hopes for Berlin storywise, already smells of dragon jizz. Let's see how much "open worldedness" get's into the equation. Oh well, Linearrun Returns is not horrible, but really, what happend to all that monies? Did they have a long talk with Jason and decided to expand their jacuzzis?

SRR managed to surprise me o.O
in the end, you get to do the moral choice again.
do you give the BBEG over to the cops, do you kill her yourself or do you let the warrior bugs eat her?
and you actually get 5 Karma for killing her yourself O.o

I think you get that with every option. Not sure though, like a day passed, I barely remember.

On another note, have you found out what smartlinked weapons do? I assume increased accuracy, but hell knows. Legs make you better at shooting, so anything might be possible.

The game kinda miffed me on a playthrough as a mundane shooty guy. two legs plus datajack cost you 4.5 essence. So far so terrible, but whatever. For some reason I can't use my last .5 essence for alpha grade cybereyes which have cost listed at .5 essence. Grrr. Wanted to get rid of my meatballs, why you no fun, SRR?

It's also funny how much you can cram into a guy going for melee. alpha grade arms get cheap as hell, so you can fit better body slot cyber in. but all those increase strength and body, so nobody cares, since you can be bulletdodger mac sillypants by stacking quickness like a crazy person.

I kinda hoped there would be more cyber options, but the low tech feel works in the games favor tone wise.

Also annoying: the shops before the last mission do not offer medical supplies. Nice. You can fit me with new cyberware, but medkits? Oh noes, good sir, we do not carry such exotic warez!

Fuck turrets and Black IC.

Also, the extended gunfight with unkillable dudes was kind of annoying, as well.

So, Dungeon Defenders is a lot of fun. Now it's also quite hard - even on Easy, single-player is quite difficult. But it's fun. It's sort of a Tower Defence, but with you also running about blasting enemies.

And good progress with RPGMaker. Never before have I actually got past the basic "start making some elements" stage. It helps that this has such a good layout and makes it easy to make things. Also has such a good library of graphics to just plug straight in - getting to the "make sprites" bit is a terrible problem in a lot of other programs.

That said, I still recommend not starting with the maps and then working down, but instead by starting with status effects, then doing items and skills, then doing characters/classes and monsters, and then making the actual game from there.

Speaking of tower defense, I've been having a lot of fun with Defender's Quest. The RPG elements integrate surprisingly well, and the story is decent. I like how Azra makes journal entries you can read as you progress through New Game+
